rosacea uncovered- finding calm in the redness.
Living with rosacea can feel like a daily battle, where a simple change in weather, stress, or even a warm beverage can trigger that dreaded flush. But what if I told you that rosacea management doesn’t have to be a guessing game? At Courtney Parkhill Skincare, we take a holistic approach to understanding the needs of your skin, honoring its sensitivities while empowering you with tools to soothe and strengthen it.
Understanding Rosacea: It’s More Than Skin Deep.
Rosacea is more than just redness—it’s a chronic condition that often presents in flare-ups, varying from mild pinkness in the cheeks to deeper, more pronounced red patches throughout the face. This sensitivity can make skin-care routines feel daunting. Here’s what I’ve learned over my years as an esthetician: the key to rosacea management is working WITH your skin, not against it. Although unsightly redness can feel embarrassing at times, covering it up is only as helpful as a temporary band-aid method. We need to strengthen the skin barrier and capillary wall through soothing antioxidant ingredients found in targeted skincare to get to the root of the issue. Only then will the redness decrease and only a tinted sheer zinc sunscreen be needed to neutralize any remaining rosiness for a more even skin tone.
We know from clinical studies that rosacea skin may have an over abundance of the demodex mites, which can contribute to flare-ups. It’s also genetic and incurable, but can be managed very well with a rosacea specialist. Be sure to visit your doctor for your annual skin check to diagnose the severity of your rosacea since there are several subtypes. In some cases there are medications they can give you to help manage your flares, and when combined with targeted skincare, no-one will even know that you have rosacea!
Ingredients Matter: Over The Counter Formulas Aren’t Going To Cut It.
When it comes to rosacea-prone skin, less is more. Look for barrier restoring microbiome friendly ingredients like ectoin, bisolobol, licorice root, niacinamide, jojoba milk, glycolipids, algae peptides, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, oat extracts, tetrahexyl decyl vitamin c, chamomile, lilac stem cells & green tea extract that helps to calm and reduce inflammation without aggravating the skin barrier. Avoiding triggers like alcohol-based products, fragrance, and physical exfoliants can also make a big difference. Instead, focus on gentle hydration and barrier-strengthening ingredients that promote healing from within. When exfoliating rosacea stick to once every 10-14 days with a gentle BHA 2% salicylic acid or mandelic acid in a rinse off formula for a quick resurfacing of dead cell build-up & immediately nourish the skin with hydration serums & a barrier repair moisturizer.
Lifestyle Shifts for Rosacea Relief.
Beyond skincare, lifestyle changes can also contribute to lasting improvements. Many find that reducing stress, avoiding extremely hot or cold temperatures, and choosing mild foods can reduce their triggers. If you’re a fan of warm drinks or exercise, consider cooling down by ice-rolling the skin afterwards or switching to iced herbal tea when possible.
By treating rosacea holistically and understanding your skin’s unique needs, you can regain control over your complexion and move through your days with confidence. At Courtney Parkhill Skincare, we’re here to help you every step of the way- one calming, soothing product at a time.
