2 types of dryness you may be experiencing

Your skincare routine needs to change with the new season.

Let’s pinpoint the 2 types of “dryness” you may be experiencing so that they can be appropriately managed.

Some people have both types of dryness and need 2 different hydration serums to address both water/lipid dryness.

If you aren’t getting results with your hydration serum, chances are you have both types of dryness and need 2 specific serums to correct your skin condition.

  1. Water Dryness- dehydrated skin or TEWL (trans-epidermal water-loss) It cannot be solved by drinking water alone, & needs topical ingredients to bind water to the skin. Hyaluronic Acid and Beta Gluten are the best ingredients for this. Example: CP Waterfall Quench & DMK Beta Gel. Skin with blackheads and oily residue present, with a “dry” or rough feeling texture are typically water dry and need this type of hydration serum morning and night to correct breakouts, rough texture and dehydrated water loss in the skin. Increasing the skin’s free water levels helps to push out stagnant dry sebum, blackheads and congestion. This is the first thing I have to correct before I can move onto other issues. It’s such an easy fix for a common skin concern.

  2. Lipid Dryness- A true “dry” skin type will lack lipid or oil resulting in redness, scaliness and overall increased fine lines and wrinkles. This skin condition can be solved by introducing topical bio-identical lipids both morning and night that are chirally correct to mimic the skin’s own sebum production. Once recognized, the skin will become glowier, more hydrated, and softer with less redness. Examples would be CP Tidal Glow Drops and Cloud Bliss Barrier Soothe Serum. Don’t make the mistake of using food-grade oils like coconut, vitamin e, olive or jojoba directly on the skin, they are too occlusive and won’t penetrate the barrier in a bio-identical manner like serums that are formulated to communicate with your skin cells. Plus, raw oils attract sunlight which increases pre-mature aging.

If you have both types of dryness, you’ll want to apply the thinnest, most water based serum first, and then the thicker consistency or oil based serum on top of that. “Thin to thick” viscosity is a great way to remember. Always finish with antioxidants, moisturizer and sunscreen in the daytime, or retinol and night cream if it is nighttime.
